I’m moving from Missouri to Eugene or Portland Oregon after I graduate college this December. I’m not really sure where to start looking for a good job before I go. I’d like to work in the nonprofit sector but not sure where to search.
Anyone who lives either of those places would be especially helpful!

Moving here before you have a job is NOT a good idea. Many have lost their jobs and for the first time looking for assistance…be sure you have an income before you move here or you may end up in a undesirable situation….

Look on the Portland and Eugene craigslist boards for job postings: http://portland.craigslist.org/ and http://eugene.craigslist.org/

However, for nonprofits it’s helpful to visit them in person and see what they need, since they often don’t advertise. Look through a list and see what interests you. Or click on any of the red dots here http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=non-profit&sll=45.523875,-122.670399&sspn=0.223698,0.41851&ie=UTF8&radius=10.14&rq=1&ev=zi&ll=45.526795,-122.67025&spn=0.217673,0.41851&t=h&z=12

Lots of non profits, but also lots of people without jobs here too. Oregon is second to Detriot in unemployment… that says alot.

There are no high paying jobs here available. I live in Portland and life here is miserable. Don’t come here thinking this is some Mecca or "City on the Hill"… it isn’t. Stay where you are.

Oregon has the second highest unemployment rate in the nation. The average wage is below the national average. In fact, wages in Jackson County Oregon is tenth from the lowest of all counties in the U.S.

You will also enjoy the highest tax rate in the nation, when you count in income tax, property tax (part of your rent), taxes on your utilities, beverage tax, cig. tax., luxury taxes on durable goods, and the tax list goes on and on an on.

I find that local recruiters are good for moves. Also submission services like http://www.applyforme.net are great at getting your information in front of HR and hiring managers based on your search profile.
