Hi, im Irish, and im currently working at the moment. I am considering moving to America for a while, maybe a year, to work, or possibly get a visa for studying over there, i would like to practise Veterinary Nursing.
I don’t exactly know where to start to research these options!
Does anybody have any tips or good websites on moving to America to study/work?
Thank you!

To get a work visa and a student visa are two different things.
To apply for a temporary worker’s visa to the US under the H1B category, you need to hold a specialty degree for a profession that is in demand in the US like healthcare (nursing/therapy jobs). The official visa information page of the US Dept. of State is http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1275.html
You need a sponsor to get your H1 B visa approved. But if you want to go to the US as a student, you can look for information here http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html#4
The US is very strict, students are not allowed to work, unless for minimum-wage on-campus jobs. You need to pass the consular interview in your nearest US embassy in order to secure a student visa.

With a 2 year degree your chances of getting a work visa in the US are very bad. 4 year degree maybe, but far from guaranteed.

You won’t earn a lot of money but incur a lot of student debt. Not quite sure what the specific tuition fees are, but I would guess at a minimum of $5000 at a community college and about $20 000 at an university.

Without special skills you are not going to get a work visa except maybe for very short term visa like camp counselor.

Even for the Irish it isn’t that easy.

A student visa doesn’t allow you to work the first year and a work visa is hard to get for someone with few skills. This is why so many Irish are here illegally.

Oh wait can you kick a ball really good or do you look like a supermodel? Because you get to go to the front of the line then.

Its not possible for you to get a work visa based on what you said.

There is no state aid for foreign students so even if you did come here you would need proof of funds, this could be any amount but realisticly you would need between 50,000 to 100,000 euro for each year of study as you would not be able to work.

Also you would have to leave when you finished, there is no visa catagory for your situation.
