The trick for you would be to explore the complaints that you read about with whatever company that you choose.
For example, if you read that the company has alot of complaints about being late, you can specify in your contract with them that if they do not arrive within X number of hours of the target time, then you will pay less....

*********
I know you did not ask this but you also might want to consider selling some of your things....an 8 year old living room suite might cost more to move then you would pay just purchasing a new one.....it would be a great time to go thru your closets and get rid of things that you no longer wear or use. Most of the movers either charge by weight or volume and multiply that by the distance.
YOu can use those same calculations to see if some of the larger things that you have are cheaper to ship or just repurchase later.

*********
Lastly, dont forget to save your reciepts....on your taxes (if you itemize) you can deduct certain moving expenses and you would do well to read up on what those might be BEFORE you move so that you can take full advantage of them ALL!

Best of luck on your move!
