I am moving house to a new area in the next few weeks, and although I am excited, I also feel quite sad. Is this normal? I have been through a lot since I lived here, and have many memories, yet a lot of those are sad/horrible. Can anyone explain why I feel this way?

Regrets ?

Nostalgia…. It never rekindles the bad memories, just the good. Once you move, you will be happier, as it’s just the wrench of leaving somewhere that had good memories for you. Everyone looks at things with ‘rose tinted glasses’ and forget that the bad memories are present in this house also.
However; Forget memories, that’s what photographs are for, move on, and within a few days you will forget the old house….
    Good Luck

It is juts an attachment to a place where you lived for long and experienced so much in your life. It will slowly fade away, just let the emotions flow. I have been through the same thing and even though I had a lot of bad memories from that town, I still miss it sometimes.

Trust me, with time it will go away. Enjoy your new place! Good luck :)

No but have moved twice since we got married and felt the same. Glad to be on our way but sad to leave so many memories. I suppose it is the same feeling we get on new years eve

Yes it is normal. You know everything about where you are now; the good the bad and the ugly….whereas you have yet to find out the good and bad about your new place, so it’s a scary prospect.

As soon as you get there, you will know that you made the right decision, but until you actually leave then where you are now is all you know. All it is is fear of the unknown, and a natural instinct to cling to what is familiar.

Try not to dwell on it too much. If you are good at mind over matter just pretend you are going on holiday and will be back some time soon, then you can let go at your leisure :-)

Good luck with the move, I hope it all works out for you.
