I’m writing some articles about it and I’d like your input.

Make sure you have at least two month’s rent in your account- just in case.
Shop around at thrift stores or garage sales for furniture/appliances for the home.
Try to get into the habit of cleaning your place regularly: I.e. Every Thursday morning.. Etc.
Invite family over to see your new place!
Remember that when grocery shopping, you’re only shopping for one (I made this mistake- I lived in a family of 7 and moved out at 18 and bought two gallons of milk, a family size ketchup and three dozen eggs among other things, haha!)
Don’t move out of your parents on a bad note. I did and that’s the one thing in life that I regret.

Hope this helped!

I think surrounding yourself with things that remind you of home can help but maybe make it worse. I suggest setting aside at least one time a month that you can maybe visit home…or every 3 months or something! That way you know that you will be going home soon. Gives you something to look forward too & knowing your going home for a visit can really ease your mind

Hello!
I turned 18 in August and I was just planning on moving to New York City with a friend who already lives there. Right now I am enrolled into business college in Toronto (first year) but I’ve been thinking about becoming an Italian teacher since it is my second language.
How would I go about becoming one in New York City? Should I drop college here in Toronto and start off in NY? Thank you very much for your help.

To teach in NYC you’ll need a bachelor’s degree in Italian, with 12 credits in education. Within 5 years you will need to finish your Master’s degree. It takes 23 years to reach top pay. With a Masters plus 30 above.

Why would you limit yourself to Italian? How many schools still offer Italian in NYC? Not many. Take a BA in SPANISH. Inner-city kids take Spanish, Every school offers Spanish. Then again why would anyone want to teach in NYC?

- teacher in NYC for 35 long, painful years.

We have to move house in about three weeks’ time and we still need to choose a company to help us move.

Well I would choose one of the larger companies that u find in the yellow pages. The trick is to ask for there insurance info making sure that they will cover your stuff in righting. Also ask them for client referrals. If they are a quality company then they will have no problem doing so.. Further i would expect a good company to send out a rep to give the est. allowing you to cover any special request with certain furniture and what not… You can also check the "Better Business Burro" to make sure that they are not only registered but don’t have any outstanding complaints and what not… I would NOT rely on them to do everything for u. If something is important to you, then make sure u r there to supervise!! Remember, these guys dont give a crap about your stuff! Good luck.

Try it and find out. If you listen to all the cliches you’ll never do anything!
Holidays can often ruin friendships too but people do that all the time! Have you been away together before? Because if you can’t handle that there’s no way!

Also am I right in thinking that the man will help me carry my stuff? If the answer is yes do I have to pay extra for this service?

I would suggest that you check out http://www.van-man-removals.com/ they are based in Edinburgh (you didn’t say where in scotland you were based), they are a very reliable company. The man will help you and that’s included with the price however if you need more than one person then it will cost you a bit extra.

Hope that answers your question

When I move from my current house next year, much of the furniture won’t fit through the external door – it was all assembled on site. I don’t wish to dismantle or cut in half any of it, so is it a usual practise to have the front downstairs window temporarily removed to get the furniture out?

Also, would it be normal to give the people moving in the option of having that window left out so they can pass their large furniture in through it?
this is in the UK

If that’s the only way out then it will have to be done. Often people with narrow twisty stairs have to take the bedroom window out to get upstairs furniture in so taking out a window is quite commonplace.

Are you moving yourself or having the furniture removers in? If the latter they will advise you on the best way to get the furniture out.

I’d be a bit cautious about telling the people you are selling to until they have actually bought. Potential buyers could be put off and think your house smaller than it is. Although on the other hand they could be deterred by the thought they can’t get their furniture in. Play it by ear but I would have thought most people would be glad to have it left out on moving day provided it can be reinstalled the same day and you sort out who is paying for it.

Yahoo Answers is the public, not yahoo.
Yahoo mail is web based and isnt affected if you move
Any .com email is web based

If it was a .net address, this is dependent on your internet service provider and will delete when they disconnect your service. In that case, it isnt Yahoo that you speak to, but rather your internet service provider, such as AT& T
Look in the phone book under ATT DSL service ( or cable )

It sounds silly but I am a 21 year old college graduate and professional chef by trade. I work 2 jobs and am barely at home as it is, why am I stressing out so badly about moving out? I’m moving into a townhouse less than 3 miles away with my best friend. My parents are having a fit, my mom has cried twice already. The stress of it all is making me ill, how do I make this transaction as smooth as possible for them and keep myself from loosing my cool?

Your mom is losing her little baby. You are cutting the apron strings and at 21 years of age should be able to. What’s happening though is that you are taking on your mom’s problems as well as your own. You need to discuss with her and tell her that she isn’t losing you, and that her distress is making it harder for you. Reassure her that of course you will visit, but that you need her support at the moment and that leaving the nest doesn’t mean the end of family. Tell her that you are who she brought you up to be and that you are grateful that you turned out to be independent, but the only way of showing that independence is to stick to your guns and realize that you are entitled to move out. She will get over it, but it’s not fair that she is demonstrating such emotional power over you. If you let her do this now, she will do it later when you choose your future husband, when you have kids, when you make any major decisions in your life.
