Watch out for the sales pitches where they compare five quotes for you. They are just selling your information to desperate moving companies that have might not have a decent reputation, and increasing the cost of the service with the costs they charge.

Before everything one should visit new place. Have an idea how to spread the furniture.Check storage space, cupboards if they are more or less.
Start packing many days before. Pack thing you don’t need frequently much earlier. Label the cartons according to rooms.Everyday need should go at last.Try to get rid of things you don’t need( if there are things you have not used for 1 or 2 years, chances are remote that you will ever use them).
Keep you food storage minimum.
Ask movers and packers to visit and see the furniture( if it can be dismantled) and doors, stairway of both places so that shifting things go smooth and safe.
Its a good idea to contact the person who was living there before you to have some feed back about the place, if any problems exist with plumbing, electric fitting or some unseen. Also if they want to sell there curtains( if you have long or many windows or custom fit).
Telephone, dish transfer is different with different countries. Worth considering.
Taking kids few times before moving relives there stress.
Give yourself break for few days to arrange the house.During this time feel and connect with new place.

Make sure you have at least two month’s rent in your account- just in case.
Shop around at thrift stores or garage sales for furniture/appliances for the home.
Try to get into the habit of cleaning your place regularly: I.e. Every Thursday morning.. Etc.
Invite family over to see your new place!
Remember that when grocery shopping, you’re only shopping for one (I made this mistake- I lived in a family of 7 and moved out at 18 and bought two gallons of milk, a family size ketchup and three dozen eggs among other things, haha!)
Don’t move out of your parents on a bad note. I did and that’s the one thing in life that I regret.

learn how to cook, learn about proper use of cleaning products (my friend’s mom still doesnt)… learn about how to turn your electricity, water, and gas on and off in case of emergency/repairs. Learn how to pay your own bills, and for the rookies: learn how to do everything else mommy and daddy do for you right now.

When you arrive in California, set up a time to go to the local DMV to get a new license. You will also need to register your car with the DMV, if you have one. Plan on starting this process on the same day.

If you already have a license in another state, to get a California license, you will need to pass a written exam of roughly 25 multiple choice questions. They have pamphlets at the DMV to study from. The test is quite easy for people who have already passed a written driving test in another state.

To register your car, you will need to have your car inspected at the DMV and get a smog check at a local smog check facility.

Expect to pay over $100 to do all of this, as the smog check alone costs roughly $50.

The government of California won't give you a licence because there are already to many people on the road, because of their poor urban planning. The public transportation system is putrid, and the traffic congestion is simply unbearable. Walking on the sidewalk is the easiest way to get around in the state of California. If you want to get a licence, get an Ontario provincial licence and move to Toronto instead.

Don’t talk too much with your parents or siblings..avoid saying I miss you,miss this and that. Give yourself like a month or two to be adjusted by the new surrounding.
