I know i have left it rally late, but do i still have time, yes i am a little chaotic…but i am moving myself and my son to a smaller house and i have had sooo much to do

Most important bit of advice first: DON’T PANIC

As a landlord, I’ve bought a lot of houses over the years, and trust me, a lot of people fail to do this – the good news is that the utility companies are used to it, and generally fairly good at sorting things out. The bad news is that it can take a while for them to get their acts together.

Things to do:

1: Go round on the day you leave and take meter readings.

2: Get copies of all your utility bills, and phone up the numbers on them, saying that you moved out on X date, that the meter reading you took when you moved out was Y, and that you would like final statements send to your new address Z.

3: It cash is tight – CANCEL ANY DIRECT DEBITS you have – make sure that you get the final bills, and then pay them by cheque, rather than running the risk of having your new and old bills hit your account in the same month.

4: CANCEL ANY STANDING ORDERS with your bank.

If you have Internet banking, or phone banking, you’ll PROBABLY be able to cancel these right now :-) If not, you’ll have to face the horror that is the January bank queues :-(

Remember Mark’s golden rule – it is far better to have the cash, and have the utility company chasing you for it, than to have them take too much, and be chasing them for a refund :-)

Hope this helps. Good luck with the move.

I relocated to Oklahoma City to be closer to my daughter who had some physical challenges. I had to leave my furniture in storage in Chicago in order to move quickly (she had just had another surgery). I couldn’t get a job as quickly as I wanted to, but I have one now. Now the storage bill is currently over $2000 and much more than I can afford. The moving company also wants an additional $3000 to deliver the furniture to me. I don’t want to lose my furniture, but I don’t have the money or resources to get it. If someone could help me with the storage bill and to rent a truck, I would drive back to Chicago to get the furniture and drive it to Oklahoma City myself. I just need help with the bill. I’m not asking anyone to give me the money directly. Any assistance offered can be sent directly to the moving and storage company, I just need the help. I will work out any payment arrangements to return the financial assistance. Can anyone help me?

Do not use a moving company, they are a rip off, rent a Penske truck and do the job yourself, We moved from Indiana to Tennessee three years ago and got ripped off big time from the mover. They will quote you a not to exceed a certain amount then up the price before they unload the stuff, major mistake our move was close to four thousand or more than they quoted us.
If you do not want to lose the furniture take out a load to get it out and to rent a Penske truck and get it moved to save storage expense.

I am moving back to OZ after 3 years in the UK. I wanted to know who are the best moving companies to go with and any other tips for closing everything up to make make the move easier?

Pickfords for shipping they should then arrange a local business to pick up from customs to your home.

I am moving in a few days – does anyone have any suggestions for making the move easier?

I have to pack one (very full) room so does anyone have any suggestions for getting it done quickly and efficiently?

focus on one area at a time pack away all your books etc, keep everything together and it;ll easier. use all the space in your boxes and you’ll have less to move. and a red bull before you start might help

My fiance and I will be moving interstate in 3 weeks time, due to him getting a job transfer.

What factors do we need to take into account when planning the move?

We don’t have a lot of stuff, so we will be moving ourselves, not hiring a moving service.

Change your driving licence to the new State one. Here in QLD you must advise all address changes within 14 days, so take that into account with your own State.

Change your car registration also to the new State.

Tell everyone, banks, medicare, etc, about the new address.

One of my girlfriends are in a bit of a situation, and I want to know what you think. Her husband works away a lot,he’s a truckdriver/furniture removalist. On numerous occassions she has found porn in his truck when he gets home. Then one time she also found out that he had also been to a strip club with some workmates. The straw that has broken the camels back is that twice she has found girls underpants in the truck.Of course she freaked out,and after pushing him he said that him and the boys he works with take them from customers they are moving as a joke.
Are we the only ones that just think this is completely ridiculous and unlikely? What is your take,as men,on what is going on here? What do you think she should do or handle it?
Also,do you think there is any chance at all that he is just stupid, but it may actually all be pretty innocent?

Your girlfriend husband should be more stuck on his wedding vows and not be a free man. He has a wife at home who loves him very much and gave him her heart for the rest of their life together, also she is willing to carry his children for nine months. This man should stop and think about what (HE could be threw away) by going to stripe clubs, Having other women panties in his truck there is a problem there, he is most likely cheating on her. The porn he should at less ask his wife to watch it with him so the could send time together. But the other two problems can KILL a marriage in a hurry. Your friend needs to think about what she really want to do with her marriage and he need to think about is actions toward his wife and how his behavior has hurt her feelings and her trust for him. I love my wife with the most deep respect I have as a Firefighter/EMT, and as a warehouse worker for Pepsi of America I would not think of doing that to my wife. Good Luck!

I have been living abroad for five years and will soon be coming back home. I feel so apprehensive about it and don’t know how I will cope with being home again. How can I make it easier?
yeah I am happy where I am, which is Europe, but I have to go back to my country New Zealand to finish my university degree which will take one year and a half, so I am kind of forced to go home.

relax and tell yourself you can live anywhere in the world if you so choose…if you dont like it…move again ….life is short live it !

and reconnect it in the new house. This seems very expensive to me. Do you know any companies or aga technicians who supply this service at a more reasonable rate.
It is a four door gas oven with balanced flue and does not heat water. The move is five minutes up the road.

If you are moving from gb to usa it might cost that.
You really only need someone to disconnect it where you are and someone else to connect at your new location if they are miles apart. £30 + £30. Its very easy.

whoever you choose..make sure its not all american movers..my stuff was 3 weeks late and three boxes missing

i am planning on moving from my home town this will be my first time moving. so which is more important getting a job in the area you plan to move to before getting an apartment or getting a place to live before getting a job?

With the internet, there is little reason to go unprepared. You can find both, if not, at least narrow it down before you get there.

It also depends on your skills and the kind of job you are qualified for. Fast food and Restaurants are easy access jobs… Flying Instructor or Marine Mechanic is more location specific.

Also, what can you afford? You should learn where your "affordable housing" is, or whatever your niche may be. Right or wrong, there is "Class" sectored housing.

Either way, the shortest direct route between the two is more important than to any other destination (like shopping or recreation). Work pays the rent, and being presentable keeps the job… no excuses for being late or missing work accepted.

Do yourself a favor. Do not get any pets for the first couple of years. It is difficult to find housing with pets and you will most likely move at least once or twice in that time.

I researched my "new" town for a year before I ever moved. Study the maps! Learn the main streets and layout! When I got "There", I didn’t waste time and energy getting lost and it felt more like "home" because I was already familiar. You can locate anything you will need… gas stations, grocery stores, parks, etc. You can also avoid places… nightclubs, High Schools, fire stations, train tracks, etc.

Most daily papers are online now, start reading it to get a feel for the "local culture". Plot the "cheap rent" places on a map, they are usually not the "best" neighborhoods. Also read the Police Blotter if they offer one.

Obviously the classifieds will give you job info, but check the archives to see what businesses are always hiring people. This may be good as a first job, but realize they may have a high turnover for being a bad place to work. Same goes for apartments.

Also use the online Chamber of Commerce as a resource. There are also some local job boards to peruse. Finally, the Census Bureau can give you great insights also.
