I’m thinking of moving from Melbourne to south-east Queensland and I want to get a rough idea of how much a removalist will cost to move a house full of furniture. If you’ve done this move recently, how much did it cost you and any recommendations for a reliable and cheap removal company?
Don’t suppose I can change your mind about that, LOL?! (I left SEQ for Melbourne…)

Call a mover and explain the problem- ask for a fee if they would be willing to come and use their experience to get it in for you.

My landlords have cancelled there energy suppliers so there is currently nothing been supplied to the house. If I call British Gas on Sunday (1st July, date i move in) will they just be able to connect the gas and electric up? Thanks
The current landlords are not moving out till Saturday though so should i just ring them and ask them to transfer their bills into my name??
You won’t be in the dark as suppliers don’t disconnect properties when they are vacant any more. The only exception is if there are prepayment meters, in which case you need to give the supplier notice so they can ensure you have credit on the meter when you move in!
When you move in on Sunday, you need to take meter readings and call the provider your landlord was using and give them the readings. You have to do this even if you are planning to use a different company to your landlord.
BG aren’t open on Sunday, if you are calling them they are open Monday to Friday 8-8 and Saturday 8-6. The ‘homemovers’ telephone number is 08459 555 800.
Expect all the utility companies to be busy at the start of next week – due to the postal strike there will be a backlog of people getting bills and letters on Monday and calling up.
I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

so all the sudden my parents started to talk about moving. it wouldn’t be far, just to the opposite side of town. but they want to move in to condos not a house and i really dont like the idea of that. and my brother really likes the idea of it too. but he is going to college in a few months so it wont really matter to him. but im home for another three years and i don’t wanna move. i like where we live. and also my grandpa build our house and he passed away last year and they are acting like that doesn’t matter. i just don’t know what to do because everyone else in my family wants to do it. you see if i tell them i dont wanna move then they wont, but ill feel bad cause it will be my fault..
i need some help
Start making the house payment. Your opinion will carry more weight at that point.
I have been getting yes and no for moving my spouse. My orders said i was not athorized to move her but i have been told that I need to get my orders amended. I need to know the accepted time. I have been told 20 weeks and 21 weeks of training. I am currently undergoing 20 weeks 4 days of training so it is getting confusing. If you know the rule could you tell me and also give me the AR ###-## so I could have proof.
If it goes for more than 20+ weeks then you are TECHNICALLY entitled to receive accompanied orders, and you may move your wife at the government’s expense. Of course, 20+ weeks really means "21 weeks and up" because 20 weeks PLUS 1 to 6 days is still within the timeframe where you cannot get accompanied orders. However, such orders depend on a large extent on your commanding officer for the following reason: even with accompanied orders, a soldier may not be able to get out of post before 9 weeks. Commanding officers do not like soldiers at AIT to leave so they are tight about it. Even after 9 weeks you may not stay over at night and the timeframe for visiting is pretty limited. So, in your case, Im sure you will NOT get accompanied orders. In which case, you will have to wait until AIT is done. Then you may bring your wife at government’s expense and live off post OR at post if space is available.
If so, how did you move your belongings? By removalist, container, or diy? How would you do things differently next time?
Yes, I have moved state to state several times, and have always used a removal company.
Using a reputable removalist is much less hassle.
Just make sure you have all your insurance etc in place.
I always takes precious photos and important papers with me. They do not go on the truck.
If you haven’t moved for some time, having a garage sale prior to moving is a good idea.
No point in paying someone to move items that you no longer need or want.
