My brother, sister and I think that our mum and dad are moving house without telling us. I know in due course we will find out. Do you ever get the feeling that your parents are up to something because that’s what we have got. We have also seen some of the letter that they have got through the post. Any one got ideas to get information out of your parents for things like this.

Any advice would be great. Please help. I really don’t want to move.

Just be cool and don’t worry about it. Whatever they’re doing i’m sure is good for the family. Just go with the flow and support them in every decisions they make. If they’re planning to move to a bigger house…..well….ask them to get the one with a swimming pool. LoL

When I was younger I had to read a book for school about humans having to move to a different planet because the world is going to explode or something like that. The only parts I remember from this book are the characters moving to a very strange planet and the grass on this planet was glass. I remember really liking the book but I can’t remember the name for the life of me. If anyone knows what book I’m talking about please let me know!

I think this is the book you mean:

The Green Book by Jill Paton Walsh

Im thinking to move to adelaide and need to hire some one to take all our stuff there im thinking we will need a 5 tonne truck i dont want to hire a truck and do it my self i would rather pay some one to pack it in the truck and unload it
If any one knows a rough price that would be great

most probably a couple of thousand dollars

you would be better off trying to get a backload job where it will be a lot cheaper

We are worried that if one or both of us can get a job before relocating, we will have work but no home to go to at the end of the day. Staying with friends isn’t a possiblity and no family lives close by. Will apartments if they see you had work before you moved allow you to have an apartment and require months of upfront rent? Or would they accept hearing you have a job to allow you to move in quickly? What other option is there? Thanks!

You will need to stay in a hotel for awhile. No one is going to rent without proof of employment. If you are being transfered it is not a new job.

HELP!!! We are moving house – we have 4 kids and a dog and so much stuff! i have organised for the Salvation Army to come and collect our old furniture, a rubbish clean up bin and also professional cleaners to come after we have it all cleared out – but how oh how do i pack all the stuff and sort it? What is a good method or way to do it? Where do i get all the boxes and stuff?

You start collecting newspapers and boxes the moment you are thinking about it.

OTOH. most movers will sell/hire you boxes to pack your stuff in. at one stage they insisted on packing it if you wanted it insured. I do not know if that still applies.

If you are moving yourself, you can buy boxes from movers, storage places and some couriers.

Basically, you pack like with like. Good time to sort stuff out. Caution, do not pack too much into a box as someone has to lift it. Usually 20kg max.

Yep, use stuff like pillows, cushions, doonas, towels to fill up the boxes with plates etc to keep weight down.

Crockery is generally wrapped in layers of paper individually. Stuff cups with paper, then wrap. Plates stack from bottom up.We have usually done it horizontally, then bowls, padd with scrunched up newspaper balls and then cups on side, lots of padding.

Seal all boxes with packing tape. Hint, seal bottom first before you put anything in it and make sure you carry boxes underneath, not on sides.

Clearly label contents of each box.
Label all.

You could probably double, triple, quadruple the number of boxes you intiially thought of.

You can pack towels, sheets, loosely inside plastic shopping bags to help keep them clean inside boxes.

Start packing early with the things you use least.

If neccessary, plan the last weeks menu to reqwuire the least cooking so you can get 99% of the cookery related stuff packed.

If your fridge or freezer is iced up, do not forget to turn it off a couple of days or more beforehand to allow it to de-ice.

Generally, you do not pack stuff inside these, unless you are moving yourself (to save space) and then after it is loaded.

Also, require your kids to pack their stuff early, but remind them to keeps stuff out for last week and trip.

Lastly, have plenty of boxes left over as you will never efficently pack all those last minute things.

Also, auto shops around here sell cheap two wheel trollies. for a few dollars they are well worth buyingif you have to cart 300 boxes out of one house and into another.

Ok so you know those moving icon little pictures you see on the internet? Well is there a way to upload them from your computer to your phone using the usb port to make the moving icon your cell phones wall paper?

This article will explain it all: http://www.ehow.com/how_2278529_transfer-images-from-computer-mobile.html

I’ve been thinking about hiring a van for a few days to do the move and people have suggested that I should get a removalist team to do so, but I feel that they would charge way too much for a few days work. Any ideas? Should I just hire a mini van?

I’d hire a truck from a car rental company. I’ve used Thrifty car rentals and found that the truck was near new and in excellent condition. They also supplied me with packing boxes, tapes and ropes so I’d highly recommend them!
I also avoided moving on the weekend, as things are more expensive.

In a few weeks I will be moving back to my hometown, and for some reason I feel like I have failed. I am moving back to be close to family, which I’m happy about it. Since I left I have worked my way through college and started down the path to a successful career. I’m even planning to start a business when I move.

So why do I feel like a failure? I’ve done more than a lot of the people I left behind.

I don’t get it.

Ha.. I could have written this entry.
It feels like failure because we all have this dream of going out into the world and making our own way…. coming home again feels like we didn’t accomplish that ‘casue we’re back right where we started.
You can’t think of it as a failure.. even though you are where you started, YOU are a different person and so your experiences and life will be different than before.
I’m 29 and a teacher, and pretty much the only one of my group of friends here in my hometown that isn’t married with kids… sometimes I feel like a spinster.. but then I realise.. I’m also the only one who has a college degree.
Don’t feel bad.. just take comfort that you’re in a place that you’re surrounded by people who love and support you instead of being in some far off city with no support group.
Good luck on your new career! :)

Hi guys,

This is going to sound a bit complicated but please help me to find a solution.

I’m moving house because at the moment we are renting and the landlord is about to sell the house and also, I will be moving closer to my University as well. I’m moving soon within 2 months and I need to some help and good tips because I’m originally from Australia but I am studying in L.A. I need to pack things so my parents can take it back with them and things that I will still keep in L.A. Since I am not from L.A. there is no guarantee that I will be staying here for a long term so it would be better to bring most of the stuff back home. But, my problem is that I know I have to do labels and all that sort of things but I don’t know where to even start packing. And, I don’t know what to send home and what to keep because I want all my things here with me and I consider them important. I’ve been here for 5 years so there is a lot of things but I can’t keep them all.
Thank you very much!

Hummmm…… let me think……..

Well, since you still have two months. You could get 2 big boxes, 1 for the things you wish to bring back to Australia and 1 for the things that you cannot leave without of and you will keep them in L.A. You can start packing by doing that. Then, when is 3 weeks left, you go through these two boxes again and try to bring half of the things from one box ( the L.A. one ) then put it on the AUS box. So that you won’t be carrying unnecessary things with you all the time. You could also get another box which you could put all your things that you wish to throw away and give them to Salvation Army.

I hope this will help you and good luck!

I’m in Florida and I’m attempting to locate a moving company in OK that will go in and pack one room of belongings (clothes, a bed, and some boxes) and ship or bring them to my current location in Florida so I don’t have to buy a plane ticket to go back to OK or rent a moving truck. How can I find a company that offers this service? Anyone done this recently? Have any idea what it costs?

Craigslist, LiveSimon or Yellowpages all .coms all have great classifieds
